For the first time in the 2014 football season, all three central peninsula football teams played within their respective classifications; and, SoHi, Kenai and Nikiski sent notice to the state that titles will run through the Kenai Peninsula in 2014.

The Stars, Kardinals and Bulldogs combined for 158 points in week three, allowing one combined touchdown on the weekend.

Nikiski 40 – Monroe Catholic 0

The Nikiski Bulldogs and Monroe Rams clashed in a rematch of the 2013 Small School state championship game and the Bulldogs again hunted-down the Rams; this time recording a 40-0 win and sending notice to the Greatland Conference that the Bulldogs fully intend to return to the Small School championships.

Nikiski scored all 40 points in the first half with two rushing touchdowns each for Nico Castro and Christian Riddall and receiving touchdowns for Hunter Holloway and Dylan Broussard from Cade Anderson.  Castro lead the Bulldogs with 151 rushing yards.

Nikiski will host Eielson @ Nikiski on Saturday, September 6th in a showdown of the top two teams in the Small School football division.

SoHi 62 – Thunnder Mountain 0

Following a pair of dominating victories over Large School opponents, the Soldotna Stars christened SoHi’s new turf field by amassing nearly 500 offensive yards in a 62-0 shutout of Thunder Mountain.

The Stars recorded their second-straight shutout and have allowed only one touchdown on the season and no touchdowns in the last 11 quarters of football.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Stars scored 35 points in the second quarter and 20 points in the third quarter.

Offensive coordinators in Medium School football will no longer focus extensively on the Stars full-T rushing attack; as Brooks Furlong passed for four touchdowns, 151 yards and no interceptions.  The ground game continued to roll with 343 yards, lead by Drew Gibbs, 113 yards and Ty Fenton, 105 yards.

SoHi stands at 3-0 on the season with a bye weekend to open September.

Kenai 56 – Kodiak 8

The Kardinals opened Northern Lights Conference play, after two, non-league losses, with a dominating 56-8 victory over Kodiak.

Trailing 8-7 in the first quarter, the Kardinals scored 49 unanswered points on seven touchdowns while the defense held Kodiak to 40 rushing yards.  Kyle Foree recorded three touchdowns and rushed for 142 yards; Chase Logan added two touchdowns and 130 yards.

Kenai hosts Large School opponent Palmer on Friday night at KCHS.
