Football Playoffs Open 1st Rounds: Nikiski, SoHi & Kenai Advance

The first rounds of the 2013 Small School Football Championships and the Medium School Football Championships produced no upsets; as all of the favorites won opening round games.

 

Small School Football Playoffs: 1st Round

Top four teams from the Great Land Conference

 

Nikiski 38 – Eielson 20      Friday, October 11th

The Nikiski Bulldogs defeated Eielson 38-20, holding Eielson scoreless in the game’s second half.  The win advances the Bulldogs to next Saturday’s Small School Football championship game at the Anchorage Football Stadium.

Medium School Football Playoffs

4 teams representing the Northern Lights Conference; 3 teams representing the Southeast Conference

 

Northern Lights Conference: 1st Round    Inter-Conference Round

 

SoHi 69 – Houston 13

The Soldotna Stars overpowered the Houston Hawks 69-13 in a different fashion than the usual big-play, running offense.  The Stars scored on their first play on a 65-yard run by Blake Riley; then went to the air for five-straight passing touchdowns to lead 41-0 just seconds into the second quarter.  The Star starters then gave way to the SoHi’s 2nd and 3rd units to finish the contest.  For the game, quarterback Colten Young threw for five touchdowns.   SoHi will play the North Pole/Ketchikan winner on October 19th at Dimond High School.

 

Kenai 47 – Kodiak 6

The Kardinals, the #2 NLC defeated the  #3 Kodiak Bears at KCHS on Saturday 47-6 and will advance to play Soiutheast #1 Juneau on Saturday, October 19th at Dimond High School.at 3:30 p.m.

Kardinals running back Jace Daniels rushed for six touchdowns in three quarters for Kenai.

 

Southeast Conference: 1st Round    Inter-Conference Round

 

Juneau High School  #1 seed from Southeast Conference receives first-round bye.  Juneau will play Kenai on Saturday, October 19th at Dimond High School.

North Pole 55 - Ketchikan 6

North Pole will play Soldotna on Saturday, October 19th at Dimond High School.

Large School Football Playoffs

5 teams representing the Cook Inlet Conference; 3 teams representing the Railbelt Conference
