Football Playoffs Feature Kards, Stars & Bulldogs In Semi-Final Games

The 2014 ASAA Medium School Division and Small School Division playoffs both open with semi-final rounds featuring local football champions and 2013 state champions from the central peninsula.

 

Small School Playoffs

The Nikiski Bulldogs, 2013 Small School state champions, will host the Seward Seahawks on Friday, October 10th at Nikiski High School.  Game time scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs finished Greatland Conference play with a 5-1 record and are the #2 seed into the football playoffs.  Seward, 4-2 in GLC, is the #3 seed.  The Eielson Ravens, 2013 state runner-up in the Small School division, are the top seed in the GLC with an unbeaten 6-0 conference record.  Eielson hosts Barrow on Saturday.

The winner of Friday’s playoff game advances to the ASAA First national Bowl Small School Championship on Saturday, October 18th at Dimond High’s Alumni Field.

Medium School Playoffs

The Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals advance to the post-season following a regular season finale’ which may be a preview of the 2014 Medium School state championship pairing.  However, both teams will have formidable competition in the 2014 Medium School semi-final round.

The Soldotna Stars will face Juneau-Douglas on Saturday in the first semi-final contest at Dimond Alumni Field, game time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.  SoHi, the reigning Medium School champion, defeated Juneau in the 2013 championship game 56-49.

The Kenai Kardinals will battle North Pole for a spot in the championship game; also at Dimond’s Alumni Field and a 4:00 p.m. game time.  The Kardinals, NLC #2 seed, advanced to the semi-final round in 2013, only to lose to Juneau 42-13.
