Flood Advisory In Effect For Kenai River

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a flood advisory for the Kenai River from Kenai Lake to Soldotna until 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Two to three inches of rain has fallen over the past 24 hours in the headwaters of the Kenai River.

Rainfall should be tapering off by early tomorrow but another system is expected throughout Thursday and Friday.

These systems will cause sections of the Kenai River to reach minor flooding stages, low lying areas close to the river will most likely experience minor flooding.

The Kenai River in Soldotna is NOT expected to reach flooding stages as of yet but rain in the area will cause considerable ponding of water in low lying areas near culverts and along small creeks and drainage systems.

Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges or law water crossings and don’t attempt to cross any flowing streams on foot, if you encounter a flooded roadway it is advised to you turn around.
