Flood Advisory For Western Kenai Peninsula In Affect

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has extended the Flood Advisory for the western Kenai Peninsula until 300 PM on Wednesday.
 

The Snow Glacier dammed lake is releasing at this time with water levels on the snow river and Kenai Lake steadily rising and are
reflective of previous outburst events.
 

Significant rain during the past 24 hours will add to the volume of water flowing into Kenai Lake and more rain will fall over the upper
Kenai basin Tuesday and again later in the week. .

 

The Kenai River at Cooper Landing is expected to rise another 2 to 3 feet from the current level of 11.2 feet  during the next 48 hours.

 

The lower Kenai River below Skilak Lake will rise steadily over the next few days with river levels potentially reaching minor flood stage by late in the week.

 

Residents around Kenai Lake and in the vicinity of Cooper Landing should be aware of rising water levels and be alert for potential
flooding.
