A flood advisory for the Kenai River has been extended through 3pm Wednesday.
Scott Walden with the Borough Office of Emergency Management said the impacts will be relatively minor…
Walden: “The water’s as a result of a release in the ice dam at the Snow River glacier, over towards the Seward area, actually, on the far end of Kenai Lake. That released in the normal pattern this year, and we’re seeing high water in the upper Kenai River, down as far as Kenai Keys.”
The river was expected to crest around noon today, but the National Weather Service says significant rain over the past 24 hours has boosted the river levels, extending the flooding.
The Kenai Keys area is now expected to see rising water over the next few days, with minor flooding possible later in the week.
Walden asked all residents in the area to secure outside items, to ensure they don’t float downstream.
