Flood Advisory Continuing for Kenai River

The Flood Advisory for the Kenai River will remain in effect though 5:00pm Tuesday, from Skilak Lake downstream to the river’s mouth with the Cook Inlet.

National Weather Service forecasters say that aerial reconnaissance Saturday evening confirmed that the Skikak Glacier dam has not released.

Water level rises observed on the Kenai River are the result of prolonged high freezing levels causing increased glacier melt, combined with recent heavy rainfall along the Kenai River watershed.

River levels are expected to continue to slowly rise throughout the day before cresting sometime tonight at minor flood stage.

Residents downriver from Skilak Lake should take precautions to move items to higher ground.
