Crews from Central Emergency Services are continuing to investigate the cause of yesterday morning’s Dairy Queen Fire. CES Assistant Fire Marshall Brad Nelson provided an update this afternoon.

The Dairy Queen once was the only one in the state, and has been a part of the Soldotna community for years.

This is a sad moment. I’ve lived in Alaska most of my life and from the time as a kid into adulthood have gone there every summer from Anchorage either just to take a drive on a nice day or it was the first and last place to stop while on a fishing trip. The atmosphere was great and so were the people who worked there. It will be missed and I feel for the owners.
Insurance fire?
I wish the best for the Ischi family at this sad time, Dairy Queen was one of the best family oriented restaurants in town, I have worked for Pete and Val for many years and I am so sad because that was their life long achievement, they are such a nice people and don’t deserve to go thru this, I will surely miss the trophies and the wonderful airplanes, there is no way you can replace all that and the wonderful times all the kids had there in the summers.

To Bill and Samon – really, that’s the best comment you can come up with. How negative your life must be. To JoeBlowPublic – You’re right, thankfully no one died; not customers, not employees and not our brave emergency responders. Did you take in account those that no longer have jobs, the revenue that will be lost to the City of Soldotna/KPB, the community sponsorships DQ provides and so on.
Bill & Samon…..rude idiot. First off do you even know the owners? Second.. Wouldn’t an insurance fire seem more likely to occur in January and not during their most profitable time of year…Summer. Hold back, Jughead and let the fire department determine the cause of the fire. See if they rebuild or take the insurance money and run??

I’ll be curious to see what the investigation reveals? Call me suspicious but I noticed a couple of oddities. We were in there last week and I noticed the new claw game. My son was bummed that the video games were gone. The new claw game is not in the corner in the fire pictures. Where did it go?
I still remember when it was Ischi’s V.W. Car Lot. My Grandpa bought his first brand new car there. It was a green V.W. Station Wagon. Back in the 60′s.

Hey dairy queen worker, DQ ice bream is crap anyway. Food is even worse. Trust me when I say you can find another job in the fast food industry. There are plenty of those…. Not like you are a highly specialized talent that may just have to leave state because DQ is no longer around. Pull up your big girl panties and go apply at McDonald’s. You could even take this time to get educated and a better job. There are plenty of minimum wage jobs around you can go to now. You crack me up that you call this a job loss! I just want to share that this was more than a building/restaurant. It was the place I went to with my parents and little brother 20+ years ago after a band, choir or basketball game. It is where I now take my daughters after the same. It’s the place I take my daughters to talk over a Blizzard. It’s amazing what a little ice cream will bring out in a teenager! It’s the place that I’ve spent many hours bonding with my family and friends. I look forward to it returning!
Try to ignore those that are so negative….they seem to post something negative on every story there is.

Just the memories are good to have and will be making new memories when the new DQ is rebuilt!!
I went to DQ everytime with my mother when we came down to Soldotna for camping and fishing and now she is gone at least I have the memories of us having fun eating Ice cream and just hanging out.
I wish some of u people would be conciderate people instead u have to post negative things u probably dont have much to do except be online and probably getting high and stupid!!
