Fatal Crash Closed Seward Highway for Hours Yesterday

The Seward Highway was closed for roughly four hours yesterday evening near at mile post 39, right by the Sterling/Seward Highway “Y.”

The closure was to investigate a fatal accident involving an elderly man and woman, the elderly woman passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident. The elderly couple was flown to an Anchorage hospital for medical treatment after being injured in a crash at mile 39 of the Seward Highway.

Megan Peters with the Alaska State Trooper said that the accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, when the couple lost control of their F-150 truck, hitting a guardrail, and drove it off the road.

The woman’s name has yet to be released as troopers continue to work to notify next of kin.
