Fake Check Writer Arrested by Police

9/29/2010

A 36-year-old Nikiski man has been arrested by the Soldotna Police Department in connection with a number of reports of counterfeit checks being written in Kenai and Soldotna.  Sergeant Duane Kant said the Soldotna Police first learned about this on September 10th after being called to Fred Meyer in Soldotna.

Kant said that 36-year-old David W. Henry was the person who spearheaded the use of these fake checks and passed them at various businesses for payment of merchandise.  The estimated loss is $7,000.  Kant said Henry didn’t work alone.  There are more suspects in the case who have not been arrested.  He said the businesses that were victims of these fake checks included Fred Meyer in Soldotna, Computer Renaissance in Soldotna, M and M Market in Nikiski, Radio Shack in Kenai, Alaska Industrial Hardware in Kenai and A-1 Enterprises in Soldotna. Henry is facing charges of scheme to defraud and several counts of felony theft. Last week, he was taken to Wildwood and held without bail.

As part of this investigation, the Soldotna Police Department is attempting to locate one of the items purchased with the fake checks. It’s a black and yellow 2005 Polaris 500 Scrambler four-wheeler.  Anyone who may know the whereabouts of this four-wheeler is asked to contact the Soldotna Police Department or Crimestoppers.
