Failed Transformer Connection Blamed for Large HEA Outage Tuesday

Yesterday, nearly 2,500 HEA members in Soldotna were without power, some for nearly 5-hours.

The outages were first reported just after 2:35pm, and affected a large portion of the Soldotna area. HEA crews were able to restore power to the majority of the meters that were affected by the outage at around 3:30pm.

However, full restoration to just over 200 meters in the Redoubt area of Soldotna didn’t occur until around 7:40 yesterday evening.

Joe Gallagher with the Homer Electric Association told us that the cause of the outage was found to be a failed electrical connection on a transformer on Redoubt Ave near Leidrock St.
