The project of extending natural gas service to the southern peninsula communities of Homer and Kachemak City is set to begin any time now. John Sims with Enstar natural gas outlined the construction steps in the near future for the two cities…
Sims: “It all begins with surveys, and the clearing of rights of way. Something that we’ve really tried to be open and honest about, is it’s going to be a mess. The city, you know, when you’re trying to do a natural gas distribution system for the entire city in a two-year time frame, there’s going to be some significant construction, traffic control, it’s all part of the process you have to go though. It’s not going to be clean. There’s going to be a lot going on, the clearing of right of ways is obviously a big job, that’s probably one of the biggest concerns we try to address with folks, as people struggle to understand what the right of way truly means and who owns that right of way. It’s just part of the construction process, but a means to an end, and we’re excited about that.”
Sims said that Enstar is looking to complete the build out in Kachemak City within 2013, and the Homer distribution system is scheduled to be a two-year build out.
