Drug Testing for those receiving federal aid.

Earlier this month, I learned about a piece of legislation under consideration by the State Legislature in Oklahoma.  It was proposing a law that, if approved by the State Senate and the Governor, would require drug-testing of those receiving federal aid, state elected officials and certain executives of Oklahoma companies that receive tax breaks from the state.  The bill passed unanimously in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, and was headed to the State Senate.

I have to commend the state of Oklahoma for adding its state elected officials to this proposed law.  I also think this should be something that Alaska’s legislature should consider in the future.

If the majority of today’s work-force must go through the process of being randomly drug-tested, I think the same should be true for those who receive federal assistance and those who hold an elected office, too.  I want to know that my Legislators are drug-free, too.  If they aren’t, then we need ones that are free of drugs.

Next, is the portion of this law that pertains to public assistance.  Why should my tax dollars pay for someone else’s drug habit.  Why should my tax dollars pay for a welfare recipient’s drinking binge.  This portion of the bill isn’t rocket-science.  Everyone knows that drug addicts probably can’t get a good job, anyway, due to the private drug-testing already in place by many good employers.  So, instead of giving these people money to pay for their illegal drugs, let’s put them in rehab, first.  They come out clean, and maybe they can get a good job to help them stay clean and not need any more public assistance.

Next, is the CEO’s of the big companies with the huge tax breaks.  These CEO’s are human, just like their employees being drug-tested.  So, what is good for the mainstream worker is good for the executives of that same company receiving a tax break for doing business in Alaska.  Let’s face it.  Drug-testing policies should not discriminate.   I think it can be proven that drug addictions don’t just affect the poor.

Think About it

I agree, it would save money , by possibly preventing them from having drug addicted children as well. I also think “wefare moms” should be required to remain on birth control & prove it to recieve aid so they don’t keep adding to the problem, theirs & ours. Drug addicted mothers who have one drug addicted child should be required to have some form of temp. or perm. sterilization or go to jail… As for legislators ,well they would find a way around that even if it were required. only the honest ones would submit to drug testing. Teachers, hmm, that should already be a given..

Urinalysis is not free….who would pay for all this proposed testing? Oh right, the tax payers.

Just wondering, since every citizen of the state of Alaska benefits in some way from federal dollars – welfare in some sense; roads, infrasturcture, etc… shouldn’t everyone be subject to testing? Or would that be a violation of our right to privacy?

Want to see a complete Government Agency worker turnover? Start testing FAA Inspectors. People they inspect have to be tested!
