Disturbance at Funny River Lodge Results in Fatality

We previously reported that the State Troopers responded with the BearCat Saturday night to a disturbance on Funny River Road.

Troopers explained that guests at a lodge around Mile 16 were barricaded in their rooms after the caretaker, 34-year-old Jeffery Dale of Kenai, became intoxicated and reportedly fired a gun.

Nine guests were scattered throughout the building when Troopers arrived, a little after 6:30pm. They reported that Dale had become aggressive and frightened them with his statements.

According to Troopers, Dale was found deceased in a common area from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Southern Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded and a Life Med helicopter was initially put on stand by as the situation was evaluated.
