A referendum to repeal Alaska’s new oil production tax hasn’t reached the ballot yet, but a group is already campaigning against it.
The group, “We are Alaska,” backed by the Support Industry Alliance, is advertising against the repeal, even as sponsors gather signatures.
“We are Alaska” formed last year to campaign for a republican-led State Senate, which enabled the new oil tax to pass.
Ads say lowering the tax will increase production and support oil industry jobs.
The group, “Vote Yes, Repeal the Giveaway” has until July 13th to collect over 30,000 signatures from across the state.
Governor Sean Parnell, also announced yesterday, that he’ll sign the bill, SB21, into law next Tuesday, May 21st at an event sponsored by the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.
