Crisis Negotiators Intervene in Nikiski Attempted Murder

An attempted murder in Nikiski brought in the State Trooper crisis negotiators last night. A dispute escalated between a 27-year-old female and her boyfriend in their residence on North Miller Loop around 8:30pm.

Megan Peters with the Troopers said the victim reported that her boyfriend, Joshua Saunders, age 33 of Nikiski, had hit and strangled her and left. EMS responded and she was taken to CPH. Saunders was located about a 1/4 mile away…

Peters: “He did have a knife, it was approximately a 4 – 5 inch blade, it was a folding Kershaw. He had already inflicted some wounds to himself that did require medical attention. We were talking to him for about 45 minutes after crisis negotiators got there. The crisis negotiators were able to come in and to talk to him.”

Peters said it appeared Saunders wanted the Troopers to harm him, and was in significant distress. Eventually, Saunders threw the knife into the woods and was taken into custody without injury to anyone else. Nikiski EMS responded and transported Saunders to Central Peninsula Hospital for his self-inflicted injuries.

Saunders has been remanded to Wildwood Pretrial on the charge of Attempted Murder.
