Crews Attempt to Rescue Two Stranded Trying to Walk to Fire Island

Yesterday afternoon, just before 4:30pm,the Soldotna Dispatch received a report from the Anchorage Fire Department of two persons stranded in the Cook Inlet between Kincaid Park and Fire Island.

Both parties appeared to be in distress. One man made it back to shore and State Troopers made contact with him, and the unidentified man indicated he and a friend had attempted to walk between Fire Island and Kincaid Park when the tide came in and they both were surrounded by water.

The Alaska State Troopers, LifeMed Alaska, the Rescue Coordination Center, and the Coast Guard responded.

The missing man’s body was located by RCC just before 3:30 this morning.

The man’s remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.

Next of kin notification is pending.
