Consultant Presents Options for Hospital

4/30/2010

The CPGH, Inc. Board of Directors received a findings report by consultant, Juniper Advisory, last night.  Jamie Burgdorfer of Juniper Advisory spoke to the audience, after an executive session with the CPGH, Inc. Board of Directors, about various recommendations being given to CPGH, Inc. about future governance and the future ownership of the hospital.

Burgdorfer told last night’s audience no decisions have been made by the board.  They have only received recommendations.  He said the current ownership and governance of the hospital is out-of-date and antiquated.  He said small hospitals have seen a need to combine to survive.

Financially, Central Peninsula Hospital is doing very well.  However, he warned that probably would not continue without a change.  He warned the audience about the potential loss of the Certificate of Need requirement, warning that this loss would invite a private hospital to the Kenai Peninsula, causing Central Peninsula Hospital to lose value.  He completed his discussion by offering various options for the board to consider for its future governance and ownership.

The seven options included amending its existing arrangement with the borough, privatizing, entering into an agreement with a non-profit group, entering into an agreement with a for-profit group, merging with another hospital, creating a long-term lease with the borough, or considering an outright sale of the hospital.
