Following last night’s Soldotna City Council meeting in which the progress of the library in Soldotna was a topic, we spoke to Soldotna City Engineer Kyle Kornelis about how far along the new library has come.
Kornelis: “Well the expansion is pretty much complete we’ve got some construction related punch list items that we’re working on, a long list of fixes and finalization of the construction portion and then a lot of landscaping work on the outside and really getting into the fixtures, furniture and equipment portion where were trying to fill the interior. After that we’re going to have a bit of a move in period where we move in books and supplies, there’s still quite a bit to be done but as far as the construction goes, we’re getting close.”
We also asked Kornelis if any staff had started the move over to the new library.
Kornelis: “No, not set up over there, the library is still operating out of the Peninsula Center Mall at the moment that’s where the librarian and the staff is and the portion of our collection is still over there a portion is in the basement at the library and those are some the things we still need to wrap up before we’re actually functioning as a library.”
Kornelis said a grand opening is slated in the next few months but has not yet set a date.
