Conference Basketball Tournaments Crown Champions: Star Girls Earn State Trip

Northern Lights Conference Basketball Tournament

Hosted at Homer High School

The Northern Lights Conference basketball tournament, featuring eight teams from two divisions of the NLC, closed-out three days of competition with the Wasilla Boys and Colony girls claiming NLC titles. The Wasilla boys downed Kodiak and the Colony Knights girls upset Wasilla.  The Soldotna Star girls qualify to the ASAA 2011 4A State Basketball Tournament with a third place finish and the Palmer boys also earn a spot at state with a third in the boys bracket.

The Northern Lights Conference champion, runner-up and 3rd place teams advance to the 2011 ASAA 4A State Basketball Championships on March 17-19, 2011 at the Sullivan Arena.

 

South Central Conference Basketball Tournament

Hosted at Nikiski High School

The Nikiski Bulldogs hosted the South Central Conference basketball tournament, the tournament including: Nikiski, Anchorage Christian School, Grace Christian, Cordova and Seward.

The Seward Boys and Anchorage Christian School Girls won the team championships.  The Seward girls defeat Cordova for the runner-up spot to the 3A state tournament; the  ACS boys also qualify to state as a #2 seed.

The Nikiski girls dropped the Saturday morning doubleback game to Cordova 31-30.  Nikiski,trailing by one, got the last shot of the game; however, the jumper missed and Cordova held on for the win.  The Bulldog boys dropped a pair of games in tournament play.

Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament

Hosted at Bristol Bay School

The Peninsula Conference basketball tournament opened play on Wednesday, March 2nd at Bristol Bay School.

The Cook Inlet Academy girls are a #1 seed and the CIA boys earned a #2 seed.  Both teams receive first-round byes and began play on Thursday.
