City Water Users Encouraged to Help Prevent Freeze

As temperatures have been dipping down to -25 this week, city water users in Kenai and Soldotna are encouraged to run a small stream of water to prevent pipes from freezing.

The City of Soldotna’s Utility Department to recommend that water customers on city water and sewer who have had previous freezing problems start running their cold water from a faucet 24-hours per day during the coldest times.

However, Rick Wood Utility Division Manager for the City of Soldotna is asking users to limit their amount of water by controlling the size of stream to a number 2 pencil lead. Kenai City Manager Rick Koch noticed last year that the practice was causing a spike in water usage, and asked residents to be conservative with that stream.
