City Wants to Change Commercial Zone

9/3/2010

The Soldotna Planning and Zoning Commission postponed action of a resolution at Wednesday night’s meeting pertaining to commercial zones.  The city wants to require a conditional use permit for new residential uses within the commercial district.  The resolution proposes that conditional use permits be required for any future residential uses in the Commercial district, including the Kenai Spur, Sterling Highway and K-Beach Road.  Under this proposal, any residential uses would have to meet current requirements for landscaping, setbacks, paving, parking, square footage, lot coverage, and any other requirements imposed by the Planning and Zoning Commission, before being allowed. Existing residential uses within the district would be allowed. This issue will be addressed again at the Soldotna Planning and Zoning meeting on September 15th.  Any resolution approved would be forwarded to the Soldotna City Council for its approval.
