The City of Kenai held an event this afternoon to make a large announcement. We spoke to Kenai Mayor Pat Porter
Mayor Porter: “We came here today to have little bit of a public announcement about the $200,000 that the U.S. Soccer Foundation has contributed to the City of Kenai. This is the first Alaskan city that they have recognized by supporting field improvement. They’ve done some other things, you know like programs and things, but this is the first time that they’ve contributed [to a field] and $200,000 is a lot for this area. It’s going to be fabulous for us, it’s going to touch so many children, in all different age groups, and go out there and play on that field. Because we will now have a certified astroturf, it will actually allow us to bring state tournaments here.”
Porter also said that an artificial field like this, will add up to two additional months of use compared to a traditional grass field.
