After a three day course to certify new Child Passenger Safety Technicians sponsored by the Kenai Fire Department, the Safe Kids Coalition will also put on a tutorial to properly install child car seats.

Kenai Fire Department Dispatcher April Weber detailed the event.

Weber: “This car seat safety check tomorrow at Home Depot is a 3 hour session from 11 to 2 where parents or caregivers can come and see if their children are in their vehicles and in their car seats correctly.”

She participated in the course to become a Child Passenger Safety Technician and said there is so much to car seats that people don’t know.

Weber: “There’s just so many things to know, and so many different things that can happen, how a car seat can be installed and so many different car seats, so many different vehicles and so many different ways that a car seat can go in to each vehicle and properly being installed so that the child is safe.”

Weber said the newly certified technicians will join Kenai firefighters along with representatives from the Safe Kids Coalition at Home Depot from 11 am to 2 pm Saturday, June 14, to check car seats and vehicles for those who attend.
