Chenault Reflects on HB 69 Changes

Posted: April 19, 2013 at 6:13 pm

House Bill 69, sponsored by Speaker of the House Mike Chenault, underwent some serious changes in the final days of its passage through the legislature. We asked Speaker Chenault how he felt about the final version…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “Well, naturally I wasn’t real pleased with all the changes. They’ve basically removed the felony charge and lowered that and basically changed where the AG could entertain stepping into some of these issues. All in all, I think it still sends a statement to the Feds that we’re concerned about our 2nd Amendment rights.”

The Speaker said he felt Senators were premature in discussions about the constitutionality of the original bill.

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “I think that they felt that maybe it is unconstitutional and I think that how you find out whether legislation is unconstitutional normally is not by what I think as a legislator, but certainly by going to the court system.”
