Chenault Expresses Concern Over Proposed Education Funding

The House Majority continues to address the current education bill that has been passed by the State Senate.  On Monday, House Speaker Mike Chenault told the media in Juneau that, despite his history of support for K through 12 funding, he now has concerns about the way the state is funding it.

Chenault has concerns about increasing the base student allocation when the increase in funding doesn’t reach the students.

Chenault feels, if the state wants to guarantee that the Base Student Allocation is for the classroom, perhaps the legislature should fund items outside the BSA, such as transportation or energy costs.
