Chenault: Arms Open to Gun Businesses

Posted: April 4, 2013 at 12:32 pm

As we previously reported, the Alaska House of Representatives passed a resolution to encourage gun manufacturers to relocate their businesses to the 49th state. That resolution was sponsored by State House Speaker Mike Chenault…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “You know, we introduced a resolution here a few weeks back, asking gun manufactures and part manufactures , if they’re feeling threatened by operating in states outside that don’t support ‘em, then we’re offering them to come to Alaska. Hey, we’ll support ya, we want your business, we want to put Alaskans to work, and we like you, and we like our second amendment rights, and we’d greet you with open arms.”

We also asked the Nikiski Republican, what advantages such businesses would have in Alsaka…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “A low corporate tax, there’s no state income tax, in all reality, property taxes here in Alaska are lower than they are in other areas of the U.S. We’ve got a population that enjoys the merchandise that you manufacture. While the costs may be higher to ship things in or out, you’re kind of in the middle of the world, so to speak, between here and Asia. Depending on what you set up and what you’re manufacturing, it might be an advantage to you to be in this area.”

Chenault has already reached out to one such business in Colorado, after the Colorado legislature recently passes stricture gun regulations.

I can’t believe Chenault doesn’t have something more important to do as an Alaskaa legislator. What a waste of time and expense for the tax payers of Alaska.

  • Mark says:

Are you nuts? Or do you just have no compassion for the plight of the unemployed? He’s inviting businesses and jobs to Alaska and you think it is a waste of time?
