			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The high school sports schedule opened on Tuesday night with the Skyview Panthers traveling to Seward for non-conference basketball games.  Starting next year, Skyview and Seward will be in the Southcentral Conference together.</p>
<p>In the girls game, Seward defeated Skyview 64-31.  The Seward boys pulled away for a 44-32 victory over Skyview.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[North Star Conference hockey games on tap for regular season's final weekend.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The North Star Conference hockey regular season champion and seeding for the NSC tournament will be determined on the final weekend of the regular season of high school hockey.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>With three days remaining in the regular season, the Soldotna Stars opened a round-robin set defeating Homer 3-0 on Thursday, January 26th at the Soldotna Sports Center.</p>
<p>SoHi and Kenai face-off on Friday at the Soldotna Sports Center at 7:15 p.m. and the Kenai Kardinals travel to Homer on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. game to close-out the hockey regular season.</p>
<p>All games will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and <a href="http://www.radiokenai.com">www.radiokenai.com</a></p>

<p><strong>SoHi 3 &#8211; Homer 0</strong></p>
<p>The Stars jumped-out to a 1-0 lead just :22 seconds into Thursday&#8217;s North Star Conference hockey contest against the Homer Mariners; Jarrett Urban recording the game&#8217;s first goal.  That goal stood-up until late in the third period when Nick Wrobel scored with only 3:32 remaining in the game.  Following a time-out by the Mariners, SoHi&#8217;s Urban added a final Star goal with only a minute and a half remaining in regulation time.  Final Score: SoHi 3, Homer 0.</p>
<p>Cody Harvey recorded a shutout in goal for the Stars, turning away 30 shots.</p>

<p><strong>Kardinals vs Stars</strong></p>
<p><strong>SoHi Girls 51 &#8211; Kenai Girls 43</strong></p>
<p>The SoHi girls held the lead throughout Tuesday&#8217;s game and held-off numerous challenges by the Kards in a 51-43 Northern Lights Conference victory for SoHi.  The Stars built an early lead and carried a nine-point advantage into halftime.  Throughout the second half, Kenai closed to within four points; however in the final two minutes the Stars controlled the ball in the hands of Kaillee Skjold.  Skjold lead all scorers with 23 points.</p>
<p><strong>Kenai Boys 71 &#8211; SoHi 67  OT</strong></p>
<p>The Kenai boys battled SoHi in Northern Lights Conference play with Kenai winning in overtime 71-67.  The Kardinals lead by 10 points early in the fourth quarter; SoHi closed to within three points with under 20 seconds remaining.  Jake Darrow hits a three-pointer for the Stars to tie the game with four seconds remaining.   In the overtime Kenai&#8217;s AJ Hull scored seven points, as the Kards down SoHi 71-67.</p>

<p><strong>Nikiski Girls 43 &#8211; Skyview Girls 22</strong></p>
<p>The Nikiski girls recorded a 43-22 non-conference win over the Skyview girls.  Seanna Wallis lead the Bulldogs with 15 points; Samantha Reynolds scored nine for the Panthers.</p>
<p><strong>Skyview Boys 47 &#8211; Nikiski 45</strong></p>
<p>The Panthers hold on for a 47-45 victory over the Nikiski Bulldogs in the boys varsity game.  Albert White scored 17 for the Panthers; Colten Anderson scored 20 for Nikiski.</p>

<p>Recognized as the Alaska recipient of the Gatorade award, Ostrander now is a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.</p>
<p>Ostrander finished the 2011 high school cross country running season unbeaten in regular season competition and Kenai Peninsula Borough and Region III champion.</p>

<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>SoHi @ Grace Christian Classic Basketball Tournament </strong></p>
<p>The Soldotna boys claimed the 2012 Grace Christian Classic, winning three-straight games to go 3-0 in the tournament.  SoHi senior Evan Withrow was named tournament MVP; Withrow lead all scorers averaging nearly 24 points per game.</p>
<p><strong>SoHi 70 &#8211; Houston 51: Saturday</strong></p>
<p>SoHi defeated Houston on Saturday 70-51.  The Stars were lead by Evan Withrow&#8217;s 22 points; Tanner Fowler and Cory Carver added 16 and 14 points.</p>
<p><strong>SoHi 76  - Barrow 73  2OT: Friday</strong></p>
<p>The Stars battled through double-overtime against the Barrow Whalers surviving for a 76-73 victory.  Withrow scored 20 and Tanner Fowler added 17.</p>
<p><strong>SoHi 70 &#8211; Grace 69: Thursday</strong></p>
<p>The Soldotna High School boys basketball team opened play at the Grace Grizzlies Classic Tournament with a come-from-behind 70-69 victory over host Grace.  SoHi trailed by 10 points with four minutes remaining and were lead in the comeback by 19 fourth-quarter points by Withrow, including the game-winning basket with three seconds remaining.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Soldotna Stars recorded a pair of Northern Lights Conference basketball victories over the Skyview Panthers on Tuesday night at SoHi, opening a full week of high school basketball for peninsula teams.</p>

<p><strong>SoHi Girls 75 &#8211; Skyview 6</strong></p>
<p>The Star girls overpowered Skyview 75-6 in both teams&#8217; first conference games of the season.  The Star girls lead 23-0 after the first quarter and 42-4 at the half.   Kaillee Skjold lead SoHi with 19 points;  Julie Litchfield added 18 points.  The SoHi girls are facing another long break in their schedule with the Stars next game set for Friday, 13th.  The Skyview girls are home on Friday against the Homer Mariners in an NLC contest.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>SoHi Boys 57 &#8211; Skyview 34</strong></p>
<p>The SoHi boys and Skyview boys battled nearly even for nearly three quarters in Tuesday night&#8217;s Northern Lights Conference game until the Stars took control of the game, dominating the final quarter for a 57-34 NLC victory.</p>
<p>Tied at 19-19 at the half, SoHi and Skyview played even in the third until the final minute when the Stars opened a five-point lead and never looked back.  The Stars outscored Skyview 31-8 in the final nine minutes; outscoring Skyview 24-6 in the final quarter.  Tanner Fowler lead the run for the Stars with back-to-back three-pointers late in the third quarter to give the Stars the lead.  Evan Withrow scored 11 of his team high 13 points in the final quarter as the Stars win going away 57-34.</p>
<p>The SoHi boys travel the Grace Christian School for the Grace Grizzlie Classic on Thursday.  SoHi opens tournament play against the host Grizzlies on Thursday night at 8:15 p.m.  SoHi continues on Friday against Barrow and Saturday against Houston.  The SoHi games will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM.</p>
<p>Skyview hosts Homer on Friday night at Skyview in Northern Lights Conference basketball.  The Panthers vs Mariners games will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM</p>
