In the girls game, Seward defeated Skyview 64-31.  The Seward boys pulled away for a 44-32 victory over Skyview.

With three days remaining in the regular season, the Soldotna Stars opened a round-robin set defeating Homer 3-0 on Thursday, January 26th at the Soldotna Sports Center.

SoHi and Kenai face-off on Friday at the Soldotna Sports Center at 7:15 p.m. and the Kenai Kardinals travel to Homer on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. game to close-out the hockey regular season.

SoHi 3 – Homer 0

The Stars jumped-out to a 1-0 lead just :22 seconds into Thursday’s North Star Conference hockey contest against the Homer Mariners; Jarrett Urban recording the game’s first goal.  That goal stood-up until late in the third period when Nick Wrobel scored with only 3:32 remaining in the game.  Following a time-out by the Mariners, SoHi’s Urban added a final Star goal with only a minute and a half remaining in regulation time.  Final Score: SoHi 3, Homer 0.

Cody Harvey recorded a shutout in goal for the Stars, turning away 30 shots.

KCHS Steak Feed on Sunday

The Kenai Central High School hockey team will host its annual Steak Feed Dinner and Silent Auction on Sunday January 29th the the KCHS cafeteria from 4-8 p.m.

Dinner includes steak, potato, salad and dessert.

Kardinals vs Stars

SoHi Girls 51 – Kenai Girls 43

The SoHi girls held the lead throughout Tuesday’s game and held-off numerous challenges by the Kards in a 51-43 Northern Lights Conference victory for SoHi.  The Stars built an early lead and carried a nine-point advantage into halftime.  Throughout the second half, Kenai closed to within four points; however in the final two minutes the Stars controlled the ball in the hands of Kaillee Skjold.  Skjold lead all scorers with 23 points.

Kenai Boys 71 – SoHi 67  OT

The Kenai boys battled SoHi in Northern Lights Conference play with Kenai winning in overtime 71-67.  The Kardinals lead by 10 points early in the fourth quarter; SoHi closed to within three points with under 20 seconds remaining.  Jake Darrow hits a three-pointer for the Stars to tie the game with four seconds remaining.   In the overtime Kenai’s AJ Hull scored seven points, as the Kards down SoHi 71-67.

Nikiski Girls 43 – Skyview Girls 22

The Nikiski girls recorded a 43-22 non-conference win over the Skyview girls.  Seanna Wallis lead the Bulldogs with 15 points; Samantha Reynolds scored nine for the Panthers.

Skyview Boys 47 – Nikiski 45

The Panthers hold on for a 47-45 victory over the Nikiski Bulldogs in the boys varsity game.  Albert White scored 17 for the Panthers; Colten Anderson scored 20 for Nikiski.

Recognized as the Alaska recipient of the Gatorade award, Ostrander now is a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Ostrander finished the 2011 high school cross country running season unbeaten in regular season competition and Kenai Peninsula Borough and Region III champion.

SoHi @ Grace Christian Classic Basketball Tournament 

The Soldotna boys claimed the 2012 Grace Christian Classic, winning three-straight games to go 3-0 in the tournament.  SoHi senior Evan Withrow was named tournament MVP; Withrow lead all scorers averaging nearly 24 points per game.

SoHi 70 – Houston 51: Saturday

SoHi defeated Houston on Saturday 70-51.  The Stars were lead by Evan Withrow’s 22 points; Tanner Fowler and Cory Carver added 16 and 14 points.

SoHi 76  - Barrow 73  2OT: Friday

The Stars battled through double-overtime against the Barrow Whalers surviving for a 76-73 victory.  Withrow scored 20 and Tanner Fowler added 17.

SoHi 70 – Grace 69: Thursday

The Soldotna High School boys basketball team opened play at the Grace Grizzlies Classic Tournament with a come-from-behind 70-69 victory over host Grace.  SoHi trailed by 10 points with four minutes remaining and were lead in the comeback by 19 fourth-quarter points by Withrow, including the game-winning basket with three seconds remaining.

The Star girls overpowered Skyview 75-6 in both teams’ first conference games of the season.  The Star girls lead 23-0 after the first quarter and 42-4 at the half.   Kaillee Skjold lead SoHi with 19 points;  Julie Litchfield added 18 points.  The SoHi girls are facing another long break in their schedule with the Stars next game set for Friday, 13th.  The Skyview girls are home on Friday against the Homer Mariners in an NLC contest.

SoHi Boys 57 – Skyview 34

The SoHi boys and Skyview boys battled nearly even for nearly three quarters in Tuesday night’s Northern Lights Conference game until the Stars took control of the game, dominating the final quarter for a 57-34 NLC victory.

Tied at 19-19 at the half, SoHi and Skyview played even in the third until the final minute when the Stars opened a five-point lead and never looked back.  The Stars outscored Skyview 31-8 in the final nine minutes; outscoring Skyview 24-6 in the final quarter.  Tanner Fowler lead the run for the Stars with back-to-back three-pointers late in the third quarter to give the Stars the lead.  Evan Withrow scored 11 of his team high 13 points in the final quarter as the Stars win going away 57-34.

The SoHi boys travel the Grace Christian School for the Grace Grizzlie Classic on Thursday.  SoHi opens tournament play against the host Grizzlies on Thursday night at 8:15 p.m.  SoHi continues on Friday against Barrow and Saturday against Houston.  The SoHi games will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM.

Skyview hosts Homer on Friday night at Skyview in Northern Lights Conference basketball.  The Panthers vs Mariners games will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM

Skyview Boys @ ACS/Pepsi Invitational–December 29-31

Saturday 4th-6th Place Game: Skyview 34 – Nome 51

The Panther boys dropped their final game at the ACS tournament to the Nome Nanooks 51-34.  Skyview finishes tournament play at 1-2 and in 6th place.  Jordan Jones lead Skyview with nine points.  The Panthers open Northern Lights Conference play on Tuesday, January 3rd against the Soldotna Stars at SoHi.

Friday Consolation Game: Skyview 48 – Pt. Hope 31

The Panther boys defeated Pt. Hope 48-31 in Friday afternoon’s consolation round contest at the ACS/Pepsi Invitational.  Skyview was lead by Jordan Jones with 16 points.

The Panthers close-out tournament play on Saturday with a 4th-Place game scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.

The Skyview boys opened play at the 2011 ACS/Pepsi Invitational on Thursday, December 29th with a 67-24 loss in a first-round game against host Anchorage Christian School.  The Panthers started slowly, trailing 15-4 after one quarter and 40-14 at the half. 

SoHi Boys @ Clark Cochrane Christmas Classic–December 27-30

3rd Place Game: SoHi 39 - Eatonville 44 

Following an off-day on Thursday, SoHi returned to play in the third-place game on Friday afternoon. against Eatonville at the Clark Cochrane Tournament in Ketchikan.  The Stars offense never on track in a 44-39 loss to Eatonville from Washington.  Cory Carver lead SoHi with 13 points.

Wednesday Winner’s-Bracket Game:  Service 60 – SoHi 59

The SoHi boys fell to Service High School 60-59 in the tournament’s winner’s bracket round on Wednesday in Ketchikan.  SoHi held a 36-25 lead at the half; however Service controlled and third quarter an tied the game at 49-49.

The Stars had the last possession, but came up short 60-59.  Evan Withrow lead the Stars with 23 points; Cory Carver scored 19 points for SoHi.

The SoHi boys opened play at the 2011 Clark Cochrane Christmas Classic on Tuesday, December 27th with a first-round 60-39 victory over North Surry Secondary School from British Columbia, Canada.  Evan Withrow scored 25  points for the Stars; Cory Carver added 16 points, 14 came in the second half.
