Capital Budget Cutbacks

As the Governor puts together his new budget, officials are preparing to again tighten their belts. Last year, the Governor cut $1 billion from the capital budget, debuting what he called a “lean” and “responsible” budget…


Sen.¬†Wielechowski(D-Anchorage): “The cuts are being driven in a large part because the Governor and the Legislature gave away billions to the oil industry.”


With the purse strings drawn tight this year, local cities focused their requests on projects which will save or make money. In Kenai, it’s a new City shop that will save on rent, and in Soldotna, the Sports Complex topped their list.
