Businesses Concerned About Healthcare, Oil Industry

The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District is conducting a survey of local business needs and concerns. Programs Manager Heidi Hatch said they use the results to implement new services, and the big issue this year…

Hatch: “Obviously, I think small businesses are a little bit concerned with the healthcare changes. That’s going to be a big thing, even though our survey is specifically not addressing that, because we’re waiting to hear on the results.

The survey is open through December 15. Hatch said she also expects to hear about oil and gas development…

Hatch: “We’ve had, in our area on the Peninsula, I think we’ve had quite a bit of work starting to pick up. The oil field is doing a lot more here and Hilcorp coming into our area and developing into Cook Inlet has provided some of the smaller businesses to become really busy again, so our labor force is not supporting a lot of the new businesses coming in.”
