King Fishery, Set Nets Shut Down

Posted: July 26, 2013 at 5:00 pm

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has just announced that the Kenai River will be closed to King Salmon fishing as of 12:01am Sunday. This results in the automatic closure of the East Side Set Net fishery.

Robert Begich with the ADF&G Soldotna Office…

Begich: “We’re closing the Kenai River King Salmon sportfishery, effective 12:01am on Sunday, July 28th for the remainder of the season. So that’s through Wednesday, July 31st.”

The Department said the projected escapement of Kings is below 15,000 – the lower end of the Sustainable Escapement Goal, prompting this restriction.
