A preliminary investigation by State Troopers revealed the following about today’s fatal accident on the Sterling Highway:
Ruby Gonzales, 82,of Soldotna was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee northbound on the Sterling Highway when she lost control on a slight hill. The Jeep crossed over into oncoming traffic. The front passenger side of the Jeep collided with the front driver side of a 1999 Dodge truck driven by Vincent Redford, 50, of Soldotna. Gonzales husband and passenger, Daniel Gonzales, 85, of Soldotna, was ejected out the back of the Jeep. He was declared dead by medics with Central Emergency Services. R. Gonzales, Redford and Redford’s passenger and mother, Constance Redford, 72, of Soldotna, were transported by CES ambulance to Central Peninsula Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Traffic was diverted through the Pollard Loop Road for the duration of the on-scene investigation conducted by the AST Bureau of Highway Patrol.
The road was reopened around 5:15pm.
