Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline to file for Augusts’ state primary.
Locally, House Speaker Mike Chenault is the only individual currently filed to run for the House District 28 seat, which will represent the Northern Kenai Peninsula including Nikiski, as well as Sterling, Cooper Landing, Hope and Seward.
House District 29 currently has three individuals vying for that seat, incumbent Kurt Olson, Former State Rep. Kelly Wolf, and Borough assembly president Gary Knopp. District 29 is very similar to the previous Kenai/Soldotna House Seat.
House district 30 will cover the Southern Kenai Peninsula communities including Kasilof, Clam Gulch, Anchor Point, Homer, and Kachemak City. Currently, incumbent Rep. Paul Seaton is being challenged by Jon Faulkner, both men claim Homer as their hometown.
School Board President Joe Arness of Nikiski and sitting Senator Cathy Giessel are filed for Senate Seat N, which represents South Anchorage and the Northern Kenai Peninsula including Niksiki.
Senate Seat O, which represents Kenai/Soldotna south to Homer, Seldovia, and Halibut Cove, has incumbent Senator Tom Wagoner facing off with Soldotna Mayor Peter Micciche for the election.
