Borough Urges Prospective Home Buyers to Do Research

Amid the ongoing work to correct the disastrous K-Beach flooding of 2013, the borough urges potential home buyers to do research.

Borough Mayor Mike Navarre said there are still many homes throughout the K-Beach area that have not experienced water problems.

Mayor Navarre: “Look at when the building or house was constructed, what kind of septic system they have, how deep the well is, and then there’s tools available on the borough website through our geographic information system that allows them to identify which areas are wetlands, what’s the historical water table in that area, and so really doing their due diligence before they buy, it doesn’t mean they can’t buy in that area.”

He has convened with both the newly formed K-Beach High Water Drainage Task Force and the non-profit K-Beach Flood Mitigation Project which operates under the umbrella of Bridges Community Resource Network.

Navarre said there are still no simple solutions but the water tables seemed to have gone down.

Mayor Navarre: “When you look back to what happened in 2013 that was a cumulation of events that caused a very significant flooding event and that really didn’t happen to that extent before and it hasn’t happened in the last year or so. We saw very little impacts last year in 2014, certainly by comparison to 2013.”
