On Tuesday night, Borough Mayor Dave Carey reported to the Assembly that he wants to expand hardships when it comes to property taxes.  KSRM’s Leon Alsworth has more.

  • I think Borough Mayor Carey is going in the right direction with property taxes. I get a partial
tax deduction because I am disabled and my income is fixed. Between paying for property taxes and homeowners insurance I have a hard time making eb=nds meet. It is especially difficult with the price of heating oil going up and down like a yoyo and now Homer Electric wants to increase rates by 6 percent. The lower middle class and the lower class income people are strapped financially. I am a single parent and a single grandparent supporting my 2 year old grandson and my unemployed daughter. My mortgage payment takes nearly 25 % of my income. There needs to be some equitable median that is fair to all levels of
    borough members.
