September 1st is an important day for businesses who sell non-prepared food. the seasonal tax exemption begins. It stays in effect until May 31st. The Borough Finance Director Craig Chapman says those with questions about the exemption can find help at the Borough’s website.
Businesses within the city limits of Soldotna, Kenai, ans Seward will also want to contact the respective cities as well. Those three communities have opted out of the non-prepared food tax exemption. This means the Borough Tax is exempt; however, the city sales tax is still in effect.
