Borough Continues to Count the Cost of Firefight

We reported yesterday that the latest calculations put the cost of the Funny River fire at $8,894,983.  That number came from the Interagency Management Team, and will likely be covered by state and federal funding.

Closer to home, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre said they’re still finalizing the bills…

KPB Borough Mayor Navarre: “We set up accounts to make sure that we would properly account for all the funds that are used, and then all the service areas that responded at the request of the Incident Command Team and otherwise will get reimbursed based on already existing agreements that are in place. And then for the stuff that our Office of Emergency Management, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) that were deployed, etc, those kinds of things we will work; it’s really a negotiating process with the funders of this through state and federal agencies in order to see how much of that we get reimbursed, but the bulk of that we will get reimbursed for.”
