Board of Fish May Not See New Member Until Late July

The Board of Fish is in a minor state of limbo as they await the appointment of a new Board Member. Heading into the 2013 fishing season, only six Board Members have been confirmed in their seats, with Vince Webster of Bristol Bay denied reappointment last April.

The Governor’s office has confirmed Webster’s term technically expires on June 30 of this year, and the Governor has an additional 30 days after that to announce his replacement.

The new Board Member will preside over the next in-cycle meetings before receiving legislative confirmation (or denial) in April 2014. That means the Governor’s appointment will certainly be part of the decisions on contentious Cook Inlet allocation issues.

The Governor is still unavailable for comment on this issue.
