Board of Fish Denies Northern District Emergency Petitions


The Board of Fisheries is meeting, today, to consider a total of four petitions involving fishing in the Upper Cook Inlet.  The first three requested that emergencies be declared to protect the coho salmon headed to the Northern District this month.  This included restrictions to the Upper Cook Inlet Commercial fleet.  The three petitions were denied.  During its consideration, the board members found that the three emergency requests were not necessary.  Board Chair Karl Johnstone had these comments…….



The board vote was unanimous to not consider the first three petitions pertaining to Northern District cohos.  The last petition that is being considered today is authored by the Kenai River Sportsfishing Association to extend the current set net closure.
