After the Soldotna City Council voted not to negotiate the purchase of the Birch Ridge Golf Course on April 22, course owner Pat Cowan continues to seek funding options.

Cowan said all the council members expressed that the golf course is an intrinsic part of the community however could not commit the funds at the time.

Cowan: “But at the same time Mark Dixson said that they would try to work with us to perhaps come up with some alternative funding sources, perhaps some grants that they would help us get or things of that nature.”

He said that there is a meeting scheduled with Dixson on May 27th to look into some options.

Cowan also said that as long as he is able to, he will seek options to keep the course open.

Cowan: “I’ll have to admit to you, it would break my heart if this thing were sold as something other than a golf course.”

In previous council meetings and work sessions about the course it was said that developers expressed interest in the property as residential subdivisions.
