Binkley Project Impacts on Business Not as Bad as Expected

With phase one of the Binkley Project nearly finished, we spoke to McDonalds owner Scott Cunningham about impacts on business.

He said they expected some loss of business.

Cunningham: “But it has not been as bad as we thought it was going to be, it’s been pretty minimal.”

He said that probably due to the fact that phase one was nearly completed before a majority of tourists arrived made it easier for locals to use the other highway entrances.

Cunningham: “Human nature is to avoid road construction if at all possible and when you, oh just on the town side of bridge in Soldotna all of a sudden there’s road closed signs and detour signs and all kinds of signs warning you of impending doom if you proceed forward.”

The roundabout at the Wilson Street, Safeway intersection is slated to be finished right around June 6 next week.

We spoke with Project Manager Lee Frey about if phase one and phase two, the Redoubt intersection, will overlap much.

Frey: “That’s kind of at the contractors discretion how far he’s going to close, we probably won’t close off that Redoubt intersection at first, we’ll probably do some construction between Riverview and Redoubt before impacting the traffic at that intersection.”
