Begich Continuing Push to Strengthen Social Secutiy

U.S. Senator Mark Begich is marking the upcoming 78th anniversary of Social Security by reaffirming his dedication to keeping Social Security strong.

The State’s junior senator said that there are responsible ways to cut the budget without hurting our seniors, and while he agrees that we need to make major cuts to reduce the deficit he says it’s clear, Social Security is not the problem.

In May, Begich introduced his three-point plan to strengthen Social Security and to make sure it remains viable and robust for decades. Key elements of the plan include replacing the current system for calculating cost-of-living adjustments to more accurately reflect the cost-of-living for seniors, lifting the cap on high-income contributions, and repeal provisions that unfairly penalize workers.
