As people are busy with holiday preparations, banks are cautioning customers to not respond to a new cell phone scam.
The scam operates via an automated voice mail left on cell phones, informing individuals that their debit cards have been “locked” and will no longer work unless certain information is provided.
The unknown automated caller asks the customer to “press 1” to unlock their debit card after providing their card number.
It is important to be aware this type of scam as banks say customers should never give out their card number or personal information over the phone unless they initiate the call.
Anyone who believe their information has been compromised by a fraudster should immediately contact their bank.
