Central peninsula basketball teams closed-out the regular season for high school basketball with conference games; Kenai sweeping Skyview, SoHi falling to Wasilla,and the Bulldogs finish on the road against ACS and Grace.
Kenai G 44 – Skyview 29
The Kardinal girls clinched the Northern Lights Conference Southern Division #1 seed with a victory over Skyview on Friday 44-29. The Kardinal girls put themselves in position with Thursday’s victory over SoHi, and sealed the deal by defeating Skyview. The Kardinals lead 22-14 at the half and controlled the game’s tempo throughout. Lexi Beeson lead Kenai with 15 points; Casee Penrod topped the Panthers with 9 points.
Kenai B 66 – Skyview 46
Kenai opened a 31-9 lead in the first half, fueled by a 23-0 run; in-route-to a 66-46 NLC victory over Skyview. The Kardinal boys were lead by Billy Keifer’s 13 points; Skyview’s Jordan Jones hit for 20 points.
SoHi G 34 – Wasilla 56
The SoHi girls fell behind 19-2 in the first quarter to the Warriors and never recovered; as the Warriors recorded a 56-34 Northern Lights Conference win. Wasilla improved to 8-2 in the NLC; SoHi stands at 6-4. Kaillee Skjold scored 14 for the Stars.
SoHi B 43 – Wasilla 57
The SoHi boys held a 22-21 lead at the half over Wasilla; however, the Warriors outscored SoHi 36-22 in the second quarter for a 57-43 Wasilla win. Evan Withrow lead SoHi with nine points. The Stars finish conference play with an 8-2 record and will be the #1 seed from the South in the upcoming Northern Lights Conference Tournament.
Nikiski G 23 – ACS 53
The Bulldogs fell to the reigning state 3A champion Anchorage Christian Scholl Lions 53-23 on Friday. Makenzie Moore scored eight.
Nikiski B 48 – ACS 68
Brando Wik scored 23 points for Nikiski, but the ACS Lions outscored the Bulldogs 68-48.
Nikiski G 26 – Grace 40
Kassi Johnson lead Nikiski with nine points; as the Bulldogs dropped a 40-26 decision to the Grace Grizzlies.
Nikiski B 50 – Grace 64
Nikiski closed South Central Conference play in Anchorage with a 64-50 loss to Grace. Sam Taylor scored 16 points for the Bulldogs.
