Basketball Teams Take To The Road: Tournaments & Conference Games Fill Schedule W/ Bulldogs Only Home Games

A full schedule of high school basketball featured tournament play and conference pairings.

Kardinals @ Cordova Invitational
The Kardinals girls won three straight and claim the girls’ title at the Cordova Invitational Basketball Tournament. Behind an 18-point effort by Raquel Young, the Kardinal girls defeat host Cordova 52-28 for the tournament title. The Kenai girls also defeated Wrangell 52-21 and opened the tournament with a 56-49 win over Valdez.
The Kenai boys dropped the tournament’s final game to host Cordova 55-38 for second place. Kenai defeated Wrangell 56-28 and defeated Valdez 47-36.

SoHi Girls @ East T-Bird Invitational
The SoHi girls lead by a point entering the final quarter of the game Saturday against the West Anchorage Eagles; only to be outscored 13-9 in the fourth quarter, dropping a 47-44 decision to the Eagles. SoHi finishes tournament play with a 1-2 record; the Lady Stars topped Thunder Mountain on Friday 56-43. The Ketchikan girls take the title with a 54-40 victory over Wasilla.

SoHi Boys @ Dimond Alaska Prep Shootout
The Star boys closed tournament play falling to the Colony Knights 49-44. The Stars were outshot at the freethrow line; SoHi 5 of 11, Colony 11 of 12. SoHi defeated Kodiak on Friday 53-45 and finish tournament play at 1-2. The Dimond Lynx win the tournament with a 75-65 victory over Nome.

Nikiski vs ACS: South Central Conference
The Anchorage Christian School basketball teams traveled to Nikiski for South Central Conference games on Saturday, and traveled home with a split in two varsity games. The ACS girls defeated Nikiski 53-23. MacKenzie Moore lead the Bulldogs with 10 points. In the boys game, Nikiski rolled the Lions.

Skyview @ Homer: Northern Light Conference
The Skyview girls recorded an NLC win over Homer 35-19 with a 12 point effort by Casee Penrod. The Panther boys, still searching for their first win, battled to tie Homer in regulation only to loss in the overtime 55-51.
