The final weekend of the regular season for high school basketball featured a Kardinal homecourt sweep of the Stars; a split for Nikiski at home; and a pair of road losses for Skyview in Wasilla.
The regular season, conference records will now be calculated and used to seed the upcoming conference tournaments.
The Northern Lights Conference tournament will be hosted at Homer High School featuring Northern Division: Wasilla, Colony, Palmer, Kodiak; and Southern Division: Kenai, Homer, Skyview and SoHi. Tournament games begin on Thursday, March 3rd.
The South Central Conference tournament will be hosted at Nikiski High School featuring Nikiski, Cordova, ACS, Grace and Seward. Tournament games begin on Thursday, March 3rd.
The Peninsula Conference tournament will be hosted in Bristol Bay and includes peninsula teams Cook Inlet Academy, Ninilchik Nikolaevsk, and Seldovia. Tournament games begin on Wednesday, March 2nd.
Northern Lights Conference
Kenai Girls 49 – SoHi 32: Raquel Young scored 22 points for Kenai. The Kardinal girls secure the #1 seed for the Southern Division of the NLC and will play the #4 seed from the North in the NLC tournament’s first round.
Kenai Boys 69 – SoHi 55: Four Kards scored in double figures and the Kenai boys lock-up the #1 seed for South and will play North #4. SoHi will be South #2 and will face North #3 in NLC tournament’s first round.
Skyview Girls 15 – Wasilla 65: The Warrior girls finish conference play undefeated (10-0) and earn the North #1 seed.
Skyview Boys 33 – Wasilla 72:Wasilla clinches the North #1 (9-1) and will likely face Skyivew (South #4) in the NLC tournaments first round on Thursday in Homer.
South Central Conference
Nikiski Girls 41 – Cordova 36: Nikiski closes-out the regular season at 6-2 in conference play and will host the South Central Conference tournament beginning Thursday.
Nikiski Boys 34 – Cordova 77: The Bulldogs will be the #5 seed at the South Central Conference tournament.
