As we’ve reported, the local teachers honored by BP as Teachers of Excellence have been announced.  We spoke to Dr. Steve Atwater, Superintendent of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.

Dr. Atwater: “We want to congratulate our Kenai Peninsula BP Teacher’s of Excellence, Susan Biggs, Renee Merkes, Robert Sparks, Greg Zorbas, Donna Austin, Myla Liljemark, and Lyn Maslow. All are going to be recognized on May 1st, we’re very proud of them, thanks for all the good work.”

BP’s Julie Hasquet told us that the program was started in 1995 as a way to just recognize the outstanding educators we have all across the state. Hasquet said that BP is very invested in building a workforce of Alaskans that can work in our state, and acknowledging the teachers who teach our young people every day is just a great way to build that workforce.
