Assembly Elects Smalley, Smith to Lead

Leadership roles were decided at last night’s meeting of the Borough Assembly, with Hal Smalley of Kenai elected President and Bill Smith of Homer his Vice President. The pair were each elected with a consistent 5-4 vote.

Smalley was nominated by Smith, with Asm. Kelly Wolf and Wayne Ogle nominating Charlie Pierce. Smith was nominated as VP by Asm. Sue McClure, with Wolf again nominating Charlie Pierce.

Although Wolf and Pierce were united at the beginning of the meeting, they took very different positions on the Central Peninsula Hospital bond issue, with Pierce determined to move the issue forward immediately, and Wolf pressing for more public education.
