The captors of a Fort Richardson soldier being held prisoner in Afghanistan are offering to release him, in exchange for the release of five-Taliban operatives imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay.

The exchange is set to be the first item on the agenda for proposed peace talks between the U.S. and the Taliban in Qatar, the talks were set to take place as early as this weekend, however, talks have hit a snag and the exact timing is unsure

Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Anchorage is the only U.S. Soldier currently in captivity.

He disappeared from his base in Afghanistan almost four year ago and has been seen in videos released by his captors sporadically ever since.

His parents in Idaho received a letter though the American Red Cross earlier this month.
