The 2013 American Legion Baseball season opened across Alaska on Wednesday and the American Legion Post 20 Twins began their season splitting a road doubleheader against Eagle River on the Loretta French Field.
Post 20 recorded a game-one victory 8-7 over Eagle River, the game-winning run scored Hector Rivera on an RBI triple by Tyler Fritz. The Twins trailed 6-0 after five innings and rallied for the 9th-inning win.
Game two, only seven innings, goes to Eagle River 7-3. The first game of the doubleheader counts toward the conference record.
The Post 20 Twins host Service on Saturday in the Twins home-opener, a doubleheader, at the Kenai City Fields; game times scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.
The Post 20 Twins are the defending state champions in American Legion baseball, winning the 2012 Alaska American Legion Baseball Championships.
